tips for writing nominations

Follow the Rules.

Late entries and entries that do not stay within the 500 word limit constraints may not be considered.

Show Meaningful Results.

Include measurable results, when possible, that document improvement or change, such as revenue generation, cost reduction or number of clients served. For instance, rather than stating “we gained 1,000 customers,” try, “we gained 1,000 customers, a 50% improvement over last year’s campaign.” Also, be sure to measure your results against your stated objectives.

State the Extraordinary.

Include more than one example of how the individual went to exceptional lengths to reach her goal. The committee needs to understand how the nominee went above and beyond the daily responsibilities of the job.

Think Diversity.

Consider the wonder women and role models you know throughout all areas of your organization who have had an exceptional year or someone who stepped into greater responsibility and created value for the organization.

Be Thorough.

Provide complete information. Assume that the judges know nothing about your entry. Entrants must present enough information for the judges to determine if the criteria have been met.

Organize Your Entry.

Submit a concise and organized entry. Judges have many entries to review, so make their job easier by organizing the information so it is easy to read and understand. Pretend you are a judge. What would you want to know about your nominee?

Consider Interviewing Your Nominee.

You will gather more details for your submission, such as how your entrant characterizes her greatest accomplishments or unique ways she contributes to the company, industry or community.

Consider Consulting PR.

If you have never written an award nomination, consider asking the experts in your public relations department for advice.

Review the WICT Touchstones.

All entrants must personify the WICT Touchstones of Leadership. See Touchstones web link for a full description.

Confirm WICT Membership.

Each nominee must be an active WICT Atlanta member in good standing at the time of nomination.
