Georgia Tech Mentoring Program

Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) Mentoring Program 2009-2010 with Georgia Tech

Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) is a national organization that focuses on developing women leaders in the cable and telecommunications industry. WICT advances the position and influence of women through proven leadership programs and services at both the national and local level.

We have a local chapter based in Atlanta and over 1200 members from companies such as Turner Broadcasting, Comcast, Scripps Networks, The Weather Channel, Cox Communications, HBO, and Showtime, just to name a few.

In the fall of 2009, we will be offering a select group of Georgia Tech students the opportunity to become involved in a Mentoring Program with Turner Broadcasting/WICT Atlanta. These students will participate in the program from Sept 2009 – May 2010. Students will be selected through an application process and matched with women mentors who specialize in the technology field and work for Turner Broadcasting.

What is a mentor?
A mentor supports another individual in her growth as a whole person. She has no stake in the relationship other than development. She has a relationship in which she listens, questions and advises without judgment or criticism. She supports, nurtures and sometimes challenges while focusing on the students aspirations.

What is the student's responsibility as a “mentee”?
As a mentee in this program, you will be asked to meet with your mentor at least twice a semester. At these meetings you are to come prepared to discuss specific issues or areas where you'd like development. Mentoring relationships take time and effort, so your commitment to this program is essential to its success.

The students who participate as a “mentee” will have the opportunity to:

      •  Enhance their leadership skills

      •   Increase their ability to develop skills related to career aspirations

      •  Gain confidence in their professional effectiveness

      •  Network with women in the cable and telecommunications industry in Atlanta

Your application should be emailed to: Michelle.McGuire@turner.com
Application Deadline is September 1st, 2009

We are thrilled to be partnering with Georgia Tech on this unique and special program!
